GIMP Basics, Landscape Project
and Intro to Survivor
· Establish methods for file management in digital imaging
· Organize and display finished works.
· Identify at least two dialog boxes in Gimp
· Identify and practice how to open and name a new document in Gimp.
· Identify and use at least two SELECTION tools in Gimp
· Identify and use the MOVE tool and at least one option with this tool.
· Identify and use the BLEND tool and at least TWO options with this tool.
Monday-
1. Complete “First Look” activity. Use images on Survivor page of Digital Imaging website
2. Create practice Landscape. Put everything on its own layer and name each layer. 800x600 template. Save as “practice”
Tuesday-
1. Intro to Landscape lesson (not practice) and RUBRIC
2. Create new 800X600 document called
“last name first initial LANDSCAPE”
3. Demo on selection tools –how they work and are different than paint tools.
4. Demo on adding gradients with the blend tool. CHANGING OPTIONS.
5. Demo on MOVE tool and its options.
6. REMINDER: EVERYTHING needs to be on its own NAMED layer.
7. WARNING: I will be taking your picture later this week for the next project. NOT optional!
Wednesday
1. First Survivor vote. Choose your LEAST FAVORITE. ONE vote only!
2. Intro to Survivor packet.
3. Work on Landscape project. Due at end of class MONDAY.
Thursday
1. Vote on Survivor. Describe the one that you chose, using FACTS ONLY, in your packet. (as described yesterday)
2. Work day for Landscape (DUE MONDAY)

1. Directions for your image for Portrait project: DIRECTIONAL LINE, INTERACTING WITH TEXT, ETC
2. Pictures for PORTRAIT project. (MAKE SURE THAT I GET YOUR PICTURE!!)
3. LAST WORK DAY for LANDSCAPE
4. SAVE and EXPORT to your H drive

b. Correct naming
c. Saving as… “last name, first initial PROJECT”
3. Begin NAME DESIGN PROJECT.
a. Create new document: 800x600
b. Save as: “Last name, first initial, NAME”

c. Create a new layer. Name it background
d. Use paint bucket to fill background.
e. Use Type tool to type your name. Use a large font. SAVE
Friday
1. Introduction to Survivor. Vote on current knowledge of photographers using poll on Survivor page of class website.
2. Discuss "First Look" document -to be completed Monday. (Due Tues)
3. Opening an existing document in GIMP –Name design
4. Adding more layers
5. Changing options in tool options including OPACITY
6. Adding more to the design using paintbrushes.
7. Using erasers to erase down to other layers
8. SAVING and EXPORTING. .xcf vs. .png
